The Acid/Base balance is the general term for diverse physiological control mechanisms. It is responsible for the necessary metabolic processes in the body, by keeping the blood at a ph value of 7.4 (+/-0.05).The buffer qualities in the blood and tissues, and the gas exchange in the lungs,as well as renal physiology all contribute to the regulation of this balance. Acid-base imbalance occurs when a significant insult causes the blood pH to shift out of the normal range . An excess of acid is called acidosis  and an excess of base is called alkalosis and both can be life-threatening.

80 percent of Europeans are estimated to be over-acidic.That's why a balanced diet is important in order to regulate the  Acid/Base balance of your body.
